Here are some pictures of one location in Utica, NY. Work was done in November 2008.
In these photos KT Power, Inc. is working on a very steep mountain side. It takes a lot of equipment (dozers and excavators) to make access to the tower location. Then, many times the dozer is required to aid in pulling up the bucket trucks and cranes used to install the new steel structure.
These photos provide a sequence to installing a new 2 pole steel structure on an energized 345KV transmission line owned by National Grid USA.
KT Power then had to remove the old steel lattice tower, by dismantling the top tier, bring it down with the use of a crane, and then cutting it up enough to be carried and loaded into a steel waste container.
The remaining tower dropped by cutting the legs at the ground and then cutting it up for scrap disposal. The tower must fall to the ground in between the existing energized transmission phases / wires. If we fail in any of the above tasks, we could knock out the power flowing through the transmission lines effecting home owners, businesses and manufacturing units. |
